Only 1 left in stock

Very rare original exhibition poster produced for a 1983 exhibition at Galerie Jean-Pierre Lavignes, Paris. The exhibition took place from 27 September to 12 November 1983 at the gallery’s address on 15, rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île, Paris 4e, as printed on the poster.

My Opinion

A poster that strikes instantly — through its image, colour and presence. It appears photographic at first, but reveals itself as a painting by Kacere. Rendered with such precision that the image feels almost within reach. The gaze lingers. Not just to look, but to understand what is being seen.

Condition

Overall very good condition for a poster of this age. A light crease is visible in the lower right corner. A small linear mark appears in the lower left area. Minor age-related spotting is present near the upper margin. All imperfections are subtle, consistent with age, and do not detract from the overall visual impact. The poster remains clean, well preserved, and highly displayable.

John Kacere (1920–1999) was an American painter of Lebanese descent and a central figure within the Photorealist movement. He gained wider recognition in 1969 when he began producing meticulously rendered, cropped paintings of female torsos dressed in lingerie. These works became synonymous with his practice and remain among the most recognizable expressions of Photorealism.

In 1978, one of Kacere’s paintings was used as the cover artwork for the debut album of Jorge Santana, the younger brother of Carlos Santana. Throughout his career, Kacere continued to refine this visual language, briefly expanding his compositions to include the full female figure before returning, in the late 1980s, to his signature torso-focused works.

This poster is a scarce period piece, produced specifically for gallery exhibition and not intended for mass circulation.

The poster was printed in France by Marsoulan (Paris) and published by Éditions Ligne S.A., with distribution handled by Le Chapitre. These production details appear in the lower margin and confirm its origin as an official period exhibition print.

The colors are vivid and immediate — the saturated reds of the stockings and small ribbon details stand out against the restrained black of the lingerie. The image carries a strong sense of femininity and eroticism, rendered with precision rather than excess.

There is an undeniable element of voyeurism, yet it never becomes crude or confrontational. The erotic charge is held in the framing itself: intimate but controlled. The body is cropped, anonymous, and composed with restraint. The image suggests desire without insisting on it; it observes rather than exposes.

Its strength lies in the balance between proximity and distance. The viewer is drawn in, but never given the whole. Nothing feels out of place or “wrong.” The erotic tension remains contained, deliberate, and quietly confident.
